AutoCAD 2014 for Mac Now Available
AutoCAD Insider: AutoCAD 2014 for Mac Now Available: Today we're pleased to announce the availability of AutoCAD 2014 for Mac and AutoCAD LT 2014 for Mac. It's been about 18 months since our last release so we're pretty excited! Our shifted release timeframe allowed us to better align with Apple's rhythm, so right out of the gate we'll be compatible with their latest OSX version.

Updating the 2014 Mac package to support retina display is a great display by AutoCAD to support customers and their needs. Switching a program over to support retina is very laborious because every icon and graphic building block of a user interface has to be recreated at a higher resolution. It seems most of the other changes will not directly effect me but I look forward to installing the program.
I worked in AutoCAD for Mac all of last year, and this summer I decided to try the Windows version. In my opinion, the Windows version is far superior. There are certain features that I wanted to use that were only available in the Windows version. I also find the UI of the Windows version much more intuitive and workflow friendly. I now run VMWare Fusion solely for the purpose of AutoCAD, as I think it is worth it.
I was hoping that this article would have more to say about features and options finally coming to AutoCAD for Mac that are still exclusive to Windows, and in my opinion depriving Mac users of accomplishing the same quality, accessibility and value in the drawings and the program. I will continue to maintain hop that someday AutoCAD for Mac will be on par with AutoCAD for Windows users, but so far I've been let down. I'd also like to see Autodesk's Inventor cross platforms but I'm holding my breath.
So this really excites me. Hopefully this will start to push AutoCad Mac toward what the Windows version is. I personally have not been drafting that long and I have always had a Mac since I have been drafting seriously. So I do not know the greatness that is the Windows world. Personally have not found anything that they can do in Windows that I have not been able to do in Mac. Not sure when I will go through the pain of downloading but I will probably do it soon. Also the bug fixes will be great!!
I just updated to AutoCAD 2014 for mac, and although I've only just begun to learn about the program I can feel the improvements. The UI feels smoother and better, and it works great with Mavericks. I don't have a retina display, so I can't really say that the image quality is that much better, but things definitely are better. The best part of this update though is that the educational version, at least as of now, doesn't put an "AutoCAD Educational Version" watermark on printouts.
To be honest, I've found no real benefit to updating to AutoCAD 2014. There's no real groundbreaking developments, except maybe the support for macs with a retina display. I really expected a lot more for a new version of AutoCAD and I came out a bit disappointed.
I just started working in AutoCAD this year so I only have experience in the 2013 version but I updated to 2014 to be hip like everybody else and to be honest I do not see that many improvements with the software as a whole other than the fact that it optimizes the resolution to support the retina display on the mac. Other than that it just seems like the UI is smoother. No updates seem to show a change toward the (from what I understand) better windows version.
