Carnegie International curator Dan Byers has art at heart

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: One of three curators who organized the 56th Carnegie International, he is calm, bearded and bespectacled. The 32-year-old Polish Hill resident possesses an earnest, thoughtful manner that radiates from his dark brown eyes.

Mr. Byers sounds like an asset to the city of Pittsburgh. I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this festival, since some of the work he is doing is really innovative and cool. It's also great to read about someone who found a passion early and stuck with it, as a lot of us have. I personally fell in love with theatre at a very young age, and that is part of what has made me stick with it. I'd love to see Mr. Byers putting more effort into attracting younger viewers to the Carnegie International, since I'm sure some of them might be captivated the way he was.

This article provided valuable insight into the impact Dan Byers' has already made on the Pittsburgh art community. Not only has Byers successfully and brilliantly co-curated the Carnegie International, but he has also helped to make the "art library" possible. The idea of an art library is fantastic. I particularly thought it was interesting that many of the higher profile guests of the International were skeptical of the library, but grew to enjoy it once they actually saw it. Byers believed in the art library, and his perseverance resulted in a new and exciting project in Pittsburgh. I was also really shocked to see the number of countries Byers traveled to seeking out art for the Carnegie International. While doing that much traveling is exciting, it must have also been extremely exhausting. I am thankful Byers, along with his co-curators, put so much effort and time into making the Carnegie International the fantastic exhibit that it is.

Over the past couple of years I have really come to love Pittsburgh as a city that is really growing as a major hub of artistic talent. Dan Byers is a shining example of how Pittsburgh is producing creative, thoughtful, and exciting talent. Having been to the international several times since it has been opened, I have a deep appreciation for the work and time that was put into selecting and curating the magnificent collection. Byers and the Carnegie Museum of art created an wonderful collection of modern art that speaks to the most inert creative instincts in all of us. Walking through the museum I found that there were many different type of exhibits, aimed at all age groups and all different types of people.
