Let's do the Time Warp again: Rocky Horror Picture Show is back

TribLIVE: It's been 40 years since “The Rocky Horror Show” first appeared on stage, 38 since it had its film debut and 37 since it had its first midnight screening, where audiences started to get in on the act. While the cult movie isn't set at Halloween, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” seems to pop up all over the place this time of year. So, if you've never seen the film that made the “Time Warp,” Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry) and Brad and Janet (Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon) famous, now might be the time.

This article is intentionally misleading. It is true that every year around Halloween a lot of theaters put on Rocky, but it is popular the rest of the year too. The article is written trying to ignore this fact. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show returns to the Hollywood Theater in Dormont at 11:45 p.m. Oct. 25" is the line that really points this out. The paragraph about the Hollywood Theater conveniently makes no mention of the fact that the Hollywood has been performing Rocky every other week for years. In high-school my friends and I attended this regularly and although there were not a lot of new people each week, the show filled almost 3/4 of the house every time I was there. I'm not sure why the author chose to ignore this but Rocky is not springing up from nowhere it has been going strong since the beginning.

I am with Isaac on this one, in New York this happens all the time, I suppose the only difference is that this is an anniversary. To be honest I did not even think this tradition went on in cities other than new york. There are other cool aspects of this show, these performances, that would have been fun to write about. For example I have friends at Boston University who are in and work on the local theater's productions. Rocky Horror gives students an outlet, a place where they can practice their trade, but also have fun and relax, express themselves even.

Rocky Horror is the best. While being super weird and seemingly random it makes a lot of comments on important topics and completely subverts the idea of a horror movie. Because of it's cult fallowing it has become an immersive movie with the audience actually verbally and physically responding. Which is important to point out because I don't know a lot of other movies like that.

While Rocky has been going strong from the begging I think that it has become stronger. I have noticed more places producing it and I think that people are more willing to attend because our generation is just becoming old enough to find it entertaining.

Rocky Horror is a great community event and also a splendid movie. I hope it is back to stay forever!

Yeah, I am not sure what this article was talking about. I have had a friend who has been part of a company who performs in a Rocky Horror Picture Show at least one weekend every month. This show is a big thing and this generation of people is bringing it back. When I first saw it, I was watching it and my mom cam in the room and starting doing the Time Warp. She was part of the people who did thing in college. She took the toast and the water bottle and the newspaper and hot dogs. She even dressed up. I am so excited to see coming back with our generation as something cool and fun to do. I cannot wait to have a chance to work on or go to a performance of this show!

Having seen Rocky Horror for the first time around this time last year I can see why this is a major Halloween tradition for many theatres. The crazy costumes and spin on life is right in line with the spirit of Halloween. However, I also think it is important to acknowledge that it does not have to be shown only around Halloween. Although I am curious of the reasons many theatre companies do put it on around this time. Is it purely for the spirit? Is there more meaning behind it? Or is it for kind of the same reasons A Christmas Carol is put on at Christmas?

I agree with everyone else who says that this article fails to highlight the regular showings of Rocky Horror. This article seems more like an advertisement for some season specific shows than an informative piece on the show as a whole.

I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I can't really understand why, although I don't think anyone really understands why.
Films like the RHPS get me thinking why some movies turn into cult movies while others just fail miserably.
I've never actually gone to a RHPS screening so maybe it'll actually be cool to go on Halloween. I'm scared though of the hazing they do to the new viewers :(
