Tom Atkins revels in Stage Manager role in 'Our Town'
TribLIVE: For actor Tom Atkins, playing the Stage Manager in “Our Town” is the fulfillment of a long-held ambition.
“I've always wanted to do this role,” Atkins says. “People are always asking me: ‘When will we see your King Lear? I haven't any interest in Lear. This is the role I wanted to do.”

Admittedly i was hoping for an article that related the position of the real Stage Manager for the production to that of the one onstage. I like the position of the narrator in the play, the last production that i saw of Our Town was 4 years ago at a university in Texas. While some of the moments involving narration disjointed from the rest of the show seem like they would pull the audience audience out of the theatrical world, they help to reenforce the theatrical setting of the events on stage; I think the role works very well.
