The Public's Our Town
Theater Reviews + Features | Pittsburgh City Paper: There's a danger in presenting a theater classic — the temptation to play it as an Important Work or, worse still, the need for directors to use the script as a mere jumping-off point for somewhat questionable interpretations.

I didn't see the show, but I agree with the author on the general idea. I much prefer theater done as intended rather then interpreted. I feel like I am likely to get hurt saying this at CMU where theater is entirely in the abstract, but I much prefer seeing a box set where the show is performed as intended, then modernized or redesigned version of a play. I don't think box sets are any less creative they require tons of detail and when done properly are beautiful. I am excited for You Can't Take it with You, which I hear will be the first box set on that stage in 10 years.
