What great news to hear that a worthy cause has raised so much money. I think there are also a lot of creative fundraising ideas that could be drawn from the flea market in order to raise money for showcase. Growing up in NYC, the Flea Market was one of my favorite events of the year because it was a chance to get your hands on some rare and unique things. Granted, I didn't have enough money to bid on any big-ticket auction items, but I always walked away with some autographs, a rare/vintage poster or two, and some great souvenirs, most of them unique. The feeling that each customer is getting something unique and special is a sales point that we can definitely exploit somehow for showcase money, whether by tabling, having an auction, selling a chance to be a student for a day, or have a walk-on role in a show, or be serenaded by the senior MTs, there's got to be plenty of unique things we can be doing to raise money as well, and a lot of inspiration that we can draw from BC/EFA.
Great point Becca, I think that there are some aspects of the auction that we can implement into our Showcase fundraising tactics also.
While I am amazed at how much money people will pay for some of these prizes, at least the money goes towards a good cause. I remember when I attended my first Broadway show and they were collecting contributions for Broadway Cares at the end of the show. I was proud to know that Broadway had aligned themselves with such a great initiative.
