So I'm going to say that a huge pet peeve of mine that I have repeatedly seen on job postings for universities is that teaching experience is "preferred". Honestly, they should be saying mandatory. Or extensive experience required. In higher education students are not guinea pigs, for someone to try being a teacher on. We are paying an extremely large sum of money for someone to give us knowledge and better prepare us to seek employment post collegiate life. I have had so many professor who are very talented in their chosen fields, but make such lousy educators. It is FUNDAMENTAL for a professor to know how to teach, not just flash their cool resume and then ride students coattails to tenure.
