Autodesk Partners with Circuits.io to Create Free Electronics Design Tool

MAKE: Autodesk today expanded its suite of free 3D tools by partnering with Circuits.io to launch an electronics design tool: 123D Circuits. The program allows users to create virtual breadboard-based designs to build and experiment with circuits. A virtual Arduino board can be added to the design, and the code can be edited in a browser window and simulated. The code can also be edited collaboratively

I feel as though this program will be a huge success. I've found myself looking into circuits.io and other schematic software but having trouble figuring out all the tricks. Autodesk has definitely taken cad and other computing model tools to a new level with the accessibility of the 123D tools. I'm excited to see what comes next.

An Autodesk continues to find a way to tailor its products to engineers and makers of all kinds. When 123D was released I though it was a nice way to provide makers and kids with easily navigated, watered down modeling program, especially with it's ability to output straight to a 3d printer. Now with Arudino technology such a large part of the maker culture it only makes sense for them to find a way to make navigating embedded electronics that much easier for the consumer and average maker. As a user of various Autodesk products and someone just starting to learn about embedded electronics I hope to be able to use 123D circuits to my advantage. Maybe I can even use all of these programs on a single project!
