Kennedy Center flings open its doors for 50th anniversary

DC Metro Theater Arts: It was a sight unseen in 18 months. Nearly 2,000 people gathered at the Kennedy Center’s Reach Plaza and lawn on Sunday to hear a live concert. The living memorial to a slain president is a bellwether for the arts community across the capital region now holding its breath as theaters reopen their doors to the public again. Could this be a sign of things to come?

I didn't know that the Kennedy Center had an outdoor venue. I live 45 minutes outside of DC and used to visit the Kennedy Center fairly often during my years in high school. I know that they constructed a new building outside of the main venue but I didn't know about this outdoor venue mentioned in the article. It is kinda crazy to think about all that has changed. Personally, I feel like I have disconnected with theater over the past year. During the pandemic it hasn’t felt the same and I still don’t know how I feel about it all. Sometimes I wonder what the industry might look like now if the pandemic had not happened, but I think it’s just better to look at the industry now and imagine how it could be in the future. Hopefully I can revisit the Kennedy Center one day and rekindle some old memories from seeing theater in that space.
