The benefits of having an arts education are seemingly endless. The arts have been known to help student’s mental health and even process things. In addition, it has been found that students who participate in the arts have found themselves doing better in school overall. The arts are beneficial to students of all ages because of how it stimulates creativity and in turn the rest of their mind. The arts can help develop cognitive function, hand-eye coordination, and even a child’s own understanding of themselves. As someone who has always been lucky enough to have the arts in their life starting in preschool all the way up to CMU I truly believe that it made me a better student and a better person. The arts are something that I hold close to my heart and I think that it should be a priority in schools. When we set aside the arts to make sure that our students are learning core activities like math and science we are actually hurting them more in the long run. I think this article highlights the benefits of the arts and exactly why we should be putting more effort into the availability of the arts in our schools.
