#WeMakeEvents is Felt Around the World with Global Action Day
Lighting&Sound America Online - News: Yesterday marked the #WeMakeEvents Global Action Day, in which countries from across the globe came together in solidarity to highlight the plight that is currently facing the worldwide live events industry. In total, over 25 countries took part at 8pm local time, with activations delivering a range of creative responses, such as lighting iconic buildings in red to highlight how the industry is in red alert, as well as beaming shafts of white light into the sky to highlight the mass job losses.

I’m glad this campaign got the attention it deserved from the public, but it still sounds bleak in terms of actual change. I’m glad people are taking charge and advocating for financial support and clarity. Without people speaking up, the situation would be even more hopeless than it already is. I just doubt that without any financial motivation most governments, especially ours, would listen. I’m not sure what kind of “protest” would be effective in convincing a governing body to provide aid, but I think we might have to do more than raising awareness. I suppose raising awareness might be useful in getting to provide some level of support, but definitely not enough to sustain the community until theaters can open again:
The most effective thing we can do for the arts right now is to vote.
