Mozart 2020 Style – Pittsburgh Opera to Present “Così fan tutte” to Small, Protected Audiences
Pittsburgh in the Round: This is not the time nor place to rehash the devastation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic in this country and across the globe. Everyone knows that their lives have been virtually turned upside down in its wake. And those in the performing arts know all too well that their livelihoods have been all but obliterated for the foreseeable future.

Wow. While I agree with this article, that it is extremely awesome that the Pittsburgh Opera has a small venue and can, with an abundance of caution, have a tiny audience come and witness theatre… Does that just enforce the elitism that already exists within our field? I understand the whole perspective of this is a “glimmer of hope.” But I do think that if this past semester has taught me anything is that we should be reaching out to larger audiences and letting the world know about the awesome thing we do called theatre. I know that that’s not so feasible right now but that's the emotional restlessness I have about returning to theatre. Anyway, I’m happy to hear that all of the performances are currently sold out, because that does show that people are still willing to support the arts, even in this trying time. I love that the show is set in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, as if you could not choose another more perfect setting.
