Cirque is… back? This is so exciting! It’s awesome to see companies and people get creative about what can be done when people cannot gather in one space to experience performance. This CirqueConnect digital experience sounds like Netflix but for only Cirque past and future performances. I love that they plan on having exclusive content and I think for people who are die hard fans of Cirque Du Soleil this will be an awesome way to keep those people interested until live performance and begin again. I also love that this content platform will not only host performance style videos but more behind the scenes and how cirque stuff gets created videos too. That’s so freaking smart and it really shines a spotlight on the brains behind these crazy beautiful shows. Would I personally pay for this? Probably not… but would a cirque fan? Most definitely. And they have a whole kids section, so parents who want their kids to be learning instead of watching netflix all day can turn to a platform like this.

I think this is so exciting. I had no idea that Cirque was doing anything right now. I am so glad they are able to provide these really cool online experiences for cirque fans, and be able to provide jobs for their employees which is great. I think these ideas are so creative. They feel far away enough from Cirque’s live on stage shows that it doesn’t feel like just online versions of that that would probably be disappointing. But they are closely related to the work that cirque does to make it still feel like a cirque experience that the fans love. I really like that they have taken so many different approaches to the content they are providing. They have educational content, lifestyle content, and entertainment content, so there really seems like there would be something that any cirque fan would enjoy. I am surprised I didn’t hear more about this sooner, considering this online content for them seemed to start on October 15th. This seems like the kind of thing I would have seen articles all around Facebook about.

You know I had my suspicions that Cirque had been really quiet lately and was probably up to something new to get to their fans. This is a really exciting selection that I think Cirque has done a good job of pairing with the current circumstances. Of course an in depth look at the process and conversations with the artists seems like a no-brainer for content for them that would be easily achievable. But their other choices I think were really purposeful and smart, knowing children are stuck at home with little to do offering classes to teach things like juggling would certainly have an appeal for both the kids and the parents who might be going a little crazy dealing with the restrictions on activities. I also think the working out with Cirque artist is a great angle, anyone workout out at home is likely getting bored with the same old routines and the concept itself is interesting enough to gain a lot of traction. I hope this provides some sort of relief, I definitely want to see Cirque make a comeback.

Initially I was kind of confused by the concept of Cirque Du Soleil at home, since it's really an immersive experience best experienced in-person, but I guess that really makes it no different than any other kind of theater. This is actually a really cool idea. I loved Cirque Du Soleil as a kid, my mom took me whenever they were in New York. I even took circus arts classes at summer camp, and I still think circuses are such an interesting art form. I really like that this will allow more people to experience the magic that goes into something so unique. Of course the cynic in me is wondering "does everything need a streaming service?", but I do think there is merit to niche streaming services like this. There's already whole streaming services for horror movies and even one exclusively for RuPaul's Drag Race, so why not have one for the die-hard Cirque fan? I hope people take away from this content a real appreciation for the work that goes into these massive productions.

I have loosely followed Cirque for a bit. I had hoped to see a show that was set to open this past spring but Covid put a pin in that. The article mentions this show as upcoming, so I am glad it has not been completely cancelled. I did not previously know that they had a “content hub”, but I am not surprised. Since the shutdown, I have seen a few of their performances thanks to BroadwayHD. My subscription has since run out, but it was really cool to experience their acts from home and to get to experience them from a multitude of camera angles. I found this series of buzzwords to be particularly interesting and promising for Cirque Connect, “original content on an updated, mobile-responsive, user-friendly platform”. I like that it is going to be compatible with all sorts of devices and user friendly is always a good way to go when putting out software. I hope this provides an economic boost to Ciruque and that a piece of this hopefully goes back to those who were involved in the productions. The original content is especially promising, and I am excited to see where this goes in and out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is awesome to hear! I’ve been reading a little about some of the stuff Cirque has been trying to get going during COVID- this is a really great way to reach audiences virtually. I also read the article on accessibility and how COVID has impacted that. With CirqueConnect, people have the chance to experience something different from their homes. It will be interesting to see how this differs from an in-person experience and how they were able to adapt their content for virtual viewing. This is kind of a difficult jump to make, and you have to figure out how to give audiences the best experience possible through the frame of a screen- which is so different from live theater as we know it. Another example of furthering our ideas of theater during the pandemic!

There was no way Cirque was going to let the Coronavirus shut down stop them from providing all kinds of content to their fans. CiqueConnect is exactly what we have been waiting for. From behind the scenes, to fitness videos, to their 60 minute special, CirqueConnect definitely has something for everyone. Cirque is giving people the chance to experience their shows from the comfort of their own home. Cirque is being extremely smart about this however. They aren't just throwing recording of their shows online or anything like that. Cirque has created new experiences to give people a glimpse at who Cirque is and what they do. They are giving people just the perfect amount of content to make sure they come back and see their shows in person as soon as they are allowed to. This certainly puts Cirque in the best position they could probably be in right now.

For a long time, I wanted to run away to join the circus. Well my actual plan was to attend circus school in Canada and then join any Cirque du Soleil show. Cirque’s magic and otherworldly characteristics, along with it’s beautiful storytelling captivated me. I remember sitting in the audience at Curios and just being blown away by the whole performance. While I’m sad I probably won’t be able to experience another show anytime soon, I am extremely excited to get to see another side of Cirque. The new show CirqueClass will hopefully fulfill both my love of tech and cirque by providing a look inside the creative process. I think this digital platform was such a great idea because I’m sure there are so many other people like me who miss Cirque. This is a safe way to stay in touch with fans and provide new content.

This actually seems revolutionary. Instead of trying to present the same craft they always have and translate it exactly to a digital platform, Cirque du Soleil is encouraging us to let the pandemic become a time for self growth and discovery. Since we can’t see their shows anymore, why not take the opportunity to see what went into making them and develop a deeper appreciation for everything that made them great? Having their staff teach classes and give a behind the scenes look is genius. They obviously can't present their larger than life acrobatics shows anymore, so why not showcase their designers and performers’ talents in a different way? I have always been fascinated by what goes into making one of these productions a reality and I am thrilled there is now more Cirque du Soleil content out in the world that can give me a glimpse into this process. Good for them for taking talent they knew they had and tailoring it exactly to what they knew was possible and what the world needed during the pandemic.
