I Am A Haunted House uses dance, new media, and a Hollywood legend to re-examine the past

Dance | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: In the annals of camp, there are few moments more iconic than the infamous wire hangers scene from Mommie Dearest, the 1981 biopic based on the bestselling tell-all book about Joan Crawford. It’s a moment so connected with the late Hollywood star that local multimedia artist, Scott Andrew, says most people don’t think of her at all beyond that.

For some reason, whenever there is anything haunted house related, I always click on the article and read about it. This avantgarde interpretation of Mommie Dearest through dance and movement in order to explore the different compastities of the story throughout time is very complex for a haunted house as well as extremely intriguing. I think it’s really cool and innovative whenever one form of art collaborates with another- in a way it's recreating and inventing new art forms that people have not explored yet. Also the fact that it’s scary and det in a haunted house but also involves dance introduces a new performance factor and an abstract layer to things that are supposedly yo be taken literally like horror. I think it will definitely attract a wide range of audiences and different interests for people and will bring a new light to haunted houses as a whole as a potential new art form as well.
