This Labor Day, We Salute the (Arts) Workers
The New York Times: Before you start loading up your fall culture calendar, take a moment this Labor Day Weekend to reflect on those people who make sure that the city’s cultural events — concerts, Broadway shows and art exhibitions — go off without a hitch. In a culture center like New York, that means there are thousands of people to thank; here, we introduce you to several of them. These are edited excerpts from conversations.

Although my aim of having a theater related job is solidifying into a definite form, honestly speaking, I still do not know what kinds of theatre jobs there are. When I examine for theatre production managers, which is a job that I am currently interested in, I cannot help feeling troubled seeing everyone having their own unique backgrounds and different roles in the theatre industry. Hence, it is always exciting to read about theatre workers for future reference. What all of the workers in this article have in common is the aim to deliver the best experience to the audience. I think everyone who works in different branches having the same aim is the greatest features of the theatre industry. In addition, Ricky Jones’s case, as a TKTS patron services supervisor, beautifully illustrates how one’s enthusiasm for the theatre can be passed down to another generation. Nowadays, there have been discussions about Artificial Intelligence taking over people’s jobs, however, as long as the theatre remains as a field that deals with emotions, I believe it would be secure from such danger.
