This article was really helpful in thinking about how to work with sub-contractors or integrators. They were talking more about having people come into their spaces in order to renovate spaces in the church and what some of the most important strategies in dealing with people outside the organization. I think what they went over was also broad enough that it can be applied to situations outside of the space in getting projects sub-contracted out of your own space. Good communication and check ins seems like a pretty obvious tip but shouldn’t be underestimated. This tactic is something I think we could really embrace more in our own system when we are collaborating with so many different departments to make sure everyone is on the same page. We do have a lot of meetings in place for this purpose but I do think individual initiative and conversation could go a long way in improving inter-departmental coordination. Then the big thing that is applicable in renovations is thinking beyond immediate need. I think most of us have worked in a space that made you really regret the choices made in construction and renovations for their lack of foresight. Though no perfect space is possible I think having perspective on the organization its goals and direction help greatly in decision making now enhancing the future.
