It still blows my mind when I think of what Cirque du Soleil started out as and what it is today. Even as someone who understands "theatre magic" and has an idea of lots of the tricks that go into creating the shows, I still sit in the audience of their shows in complete awe by the magic unraveling before me. I must admit, I am quite jealous of the Londoners for having free access to this exhibit. It must be pretty amazing to see some of the costumes, props, and other things up close. I remember being in Vegas doing a backstage tour at the Bellagio for O. That experience is definitely at the top of the list of my favorite tours. Being able to see and understand the work that went into creating such a large onstage pool, seeing their backstage operations and getting an understanding of their daily maintenance routines, and even being up close and seeing the small detailing of their large props...it was all very amusing. So I am sure the exhibit in London is nothing short of mind blowing, in true Cirque du Soleil fashion.

Cirque du Soleil is celebrating its 30th anniversary of having their shows in the United Kingdom. For this celebration they are having a free event where the public can come and view some of the costumes and masks a part of the show, as well as being able to learn about the creation of this traveling circus and hear live music from the show! With just starting off as a street show with a company of about 73, Cirque du Soleil has now grown into a world wide professional company with over 4,000 people in their shows. I know that many Carnegie Mellon Design and Production students have worked on the shows at Cirque du Soleil and hearing about the multiple productions they have going on in the world and the precise attention to detail they strive to achieve within their shows is absolutely amazing. I have never seen one of these shows before but I hope I will get the chance to soon.

It is so aspiring to see a mall street company works all the way up onto the international stage. Not only it successfully brought the circus events to the peak of its own way, it also revived so many ancient and forgotten techniques with the uprising of the circus activities around the globe. Another perks about the Cirque du Soleil is that their aiming to local and traditional point of view in their productions. The company showed a strong support to cultures by composing the old lore, local stories and ancient myth into their circus show. This is exactly what we expect to see from the company that rose from humble and striving to deliver the shows that impacts our world. Beyond the stage, Cirque du Soleil also working hard to positively influence people and communities such as attending charity events, helping funding local youth. The company is really a high standard of a modern cultural and commercial organization.

Crique Du Solell is such a cool company. Over the years, I have gotten to experience multiple crique shows. They are also so cool and are always trying new things. Weather it be doing a Michael Jackson themed show to trying an ice show. Sometimes there shows aren’t as good but overall Crique has such a high standard of excellence. Just like in the article, I know they spend a lot of time paying attention to the detail of the parts of the show. This includes the set, the lighting and all of the individual looks of the performers. Having such a high level of detail In your production really makes a difference. Because of this they have been able to run for such long periods of time and multiple locations such as the UK for over 30 years. For any type of live entertainment to be viable for over 30 years in a market is incredible.

Being a big fan of Cirque du Soleil it's crazy to think that something as huge and well known came from such humble roots. From 73 to more than 4000 in such a short time is truly staggering and underscores the inventiveness and the appeal of the shows which are so beautiful, technical, and unique. The first Cirque du Soleil show I saw was Kurios and everything about it made me want to be part of the production. From the dark steampunk costumes to the crazy sets and haunting music everything about it was so deep and alluring. Cirque is known for challenging not only its performers, technicians, and designers but their audience as well. The themes, while they can be subtle compared to the death-defying tricks, challenge the audience to see and think about the show differently. The proximity to the performers and the interaction with the house is also something that creates such an intimate feel and connection to the shows. It is in every way a feat. Their shows challenge your perception of what the human body is capable of and what the mind can conceive and for that reason, it has been a smashing success across the world and deserves all the best for their 30-year celebration.
