I really enjoy the opportunity to learn more about individuals’ artists locally and Ray Werner is no exception. Hearing about his journey into the world of theatre is like many others an interesting backstory where working in theatre was the initial goal. I’m also very happy to see people who have reached a significant amount of success be so humble about their own work and so open to the process which they are working within. Ray in his interview talks about how he has thought about writing for the actors and being open to the necessity of them informing the play he has wrote. Even his active role in trimming down the script alongside the creative team in rehearsal. He has an entire festival of new works which he sited being confused initially because he didn’t think the festival was entirely centered around his own works. It’s great to be able to see work in Pittsburgh that is whole heartedly supporting local writers and the writers support for the entire process.
