If so, you’re ripe to appreciate the sly irony Lonergan brings to this fiercely engaging play about crime, punishment, and the people whose job it is to keep us secure.

I first heard of this play from a giant subway posting, loudly promoting Michael Cera and Chris Evans roles in the newly opening Broadway play. In the midst of numerous movie to musical openings, seeing two typically movie stars made my cynical mind completely disregard this play as another chintzy, profit-minded piece. I read this post because I realized I never really gave it a chance, never actually bothered to find out what it was before I had written it of. I was completely wrong. It sounds incredibly interesting, tackling big picture societal problem through the seemingly insignificant minutia of ordinary lives. There’s a lot of topics touched that are far from surface level, not typically characteristic of shows only caring about bringing in an audience for their money. I’m intrigued now and want to see how this play develops the mundane into the fascinating and acts as a commentary on what and who we call heroes. I wonder how many others completely lost the meaning/content of the show with a name like “Lobby Hero” and a cast like Chris Evans and Michael Cera.
