Prop Agenda: The set for Triad Stage’s And Then There Were None called for a posh, but stark, Art Deco design. One of the key furniture pieces is a liquor cabinet, since each of the ten characters has at least three drinks through the course of the play.

The process taken to create this art deco liquor cabinet is truly intriguing. I have always been interested in knowing how things were created, but especially so for props and furniture as they are often very intricate. A lot of the steps taken in this specific creation process are things I have heard of, but never used myself or watched someone else do. For instance, I have always heard people talk about using kerfs cut into a piece of ply to create a bendable edge, but I have never actually seen it done and used in a piece. I had not thought about some of the implications of this (i.e., leaving the board a little too long to make sure the curve fits properly), so it was nice to see it described in an instructional manner. The step by step process photos and descriptions are very well thought out and are quite beneficial in helping me understand how this cabinet was made from start to finish. The final transformation photos make it look even more stunning.
