A Year After Route 91, New Vigilance at Events
Pollstar: A year ago, on Oct. 1, Shiva Ghaed, a clinical psychologist from San Diego, was celebrating a friend's birthday at Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas. Shiva was standing in the crowd watching country star Jason Aldean on the right side of the stage, the side closest to the Mandalay Bay Casino & Hotel, when she heard some loud bangs that she thought were fireworks.

After reading about the horrible incidents last year, I myself became more aware of exits, and obstacles in the way. Just last Friday, when I was in the University of Pittsburgh theater, I remember thinking to myself I would jump over my seat and run out the door to Forbes avenue in case anything happens. I am glad more conversations are taking place for the safety of the audience members. I am also glad that more venues and promoters are gladly paying for the increased safety measures. The article is reassuring that the change is going the right direction. And it also brings up an interesting point about drones. My thought never reached how drones can be used for an evil and harmful purposes, but now that it has been pointed out, it reminds me of the last scene in Hunger Games where drones dropped bombs over children. Another thing to keep in mind: Include attacks from the sky when thinking about the exit route.
