The Wall Group Keeps Hollywood Groomed and Red-Carpet Ready
Variety: As awards season approaches, no company’s presence will be felt on the red carpet more than The Wall Group, the artist management agency that represents one of the largest armies of stylists, manicurists, makeup artists and hair stylists readying the stars for their moment in the spotlight.

I've always found this concept of beauty teams so fascinating, and I hope one day to see one in action, because it feels incredibly overwhelming to me. I was watching the Lady Gaga documentary a few days ago and there is a scene where she is playing a piano rehearsing, getting her toe nails done, and her hair done and her makeup done all at the same time. I was in complete awe because not only does it seem impossible to play piano while all of that is happening but I think if that many people were touching me all the time I would have a mental break down (and she does in the movie shes a little bit of a diva). I would be curious what kind of training these make up artists get in having calm but calculated conversations with these very very famous people. Do they have to sign NDA's so that they can't talk about anything they see or hear? Or is just known that they are gonna keep their mouths shut? I would be really interested to see how this company operates on an internal level and how they find employees who they trust.
Perhaps it is because I’m not particularly fashion-minded, but I’m a little bit surprised that not only is there an agency representing these style artists, but that the agency that is doing that has such a dominant presence in the industry. The Wall Group seems to have prominent clients and rapidly-expanding market. It seems like The Wall Group is primarily interested in working fashion-related events including fashion shows and red carpets, but I wonder if they ever plan on reaching into the personal everyday styling market. However, it may make sense to keep your clientele high-status and focus in one area. It’s also interesting that they chose to open a London office before opening a New York City location. This agency seems like a great thing for helping supply celebrities with stylists, but I do question how it affects rising stylists that want to get their foot in the door. Are they open to newer stylists or it is fairly closed-door?
I thought this was just going to be a behind-the-scenes look at how makeup and fashion happen on the red carpet, but it was actually a really inspiring story of female entrepreneurship. I have been in an entrepreneurship class all semester that I have really enjoyed, but that often skips over the successes of women in business. I have been extremely outspoken about this with my professor, who luckily has been very open to hearing my criticism. I love to hear stories like this one. Wall, a young receptionist with an idea, driving herself forward and creating an enormously successful company focused on women. She now dominates her field and continues to expand into other countries. Instead of handing over her responsibilities after the company's acquisition, she and her partners are still directly responsible for staffing their team. That is so impressive to me. I would love to display the guts and drive that Wall has someday.
I really clicked on this article at random almost not knowing what to expect when reading but I was pleasantly surprised with a great look into an industry that I thought I knew something about but clearly did not. I guess I've always wondered and thought about how exactly style artists and talent get in contact but never quiet thought to as far as their being an agency representing them in the industry. It's an interesting idea as I wonder exactly how the business practice works in terms of marketability to others as its such an unknown industry but as the article indicates growing almost as steadily as The Wall Group itself. Wall's story is also something that I found quiet inspiring pursuing an opportunity that has lead to such great success.
