Steve Bannon declares “war” on Hollywood
Salon.com: The stunningly rapid collapse of film producer Harvey Weinstein's career is giving Breitbart News chief Steve Bannon hope that the entertainment industry as a whole is "blowing itself up" and he'd like to help the process along.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Bannon says he's going to renew his website's focus on attacking the entertainment industry in addition to frequently criticizing news journalists.

While I'm a bit disappointed about this article being less about the title than I had hoped, the content is actually something that's been on my mind for a while. With the current administrations hatred for many liberal leaning media and attacks on artists and comedians in Hollywood, it does harken back to the beginnings of where totalitarian rule begins. The demand for creative's to do a certain thing or spin a certain viewpoint is, by and large, the first step towards more damaging limits to freedom of expression and used as a way to spread propaganda such as during the World Wars. Hollywood writes the views it does because they agree with them, sure, but also because they inarguably do well. If the so called "liberal agenda" was so disliked by half of the viewers, they wouldn't see the movies and companies would suffer enough to change what they write. But this argument doesn't hold water, since movies are still perfectly successful and have no incentive to change. The attacks on Hollywood only serve to take attacks on the media one step further in an attempt to tighten control over the rwo largest idea influencing and society shaping powerhouses in the country: news and entertainment.
When its written out on paper, Bannon's hypocrisy is made obvious. I find it ironic that he criticizes Hollywood for "turning a blind eye" to Weinstein's acts of sexual harassment but continues to support Donald Trump, who has been accused of sexual assault numerous times. I think that it was disgusting for Hollywood to not acknowledge years of sexual harassment but conservatives must remember that Donald Trump used to be a part of "Hollywood," and has been accused of similar actions. Both men should be condemned but people like Bannon use this horrible situation to spin a story that attacks liberals as a whole while refusing to acknowledge the allegations within their own party. After Weinstein's victims spoke up, Hollywood has decided to take action and remove him from his most prominent positions. On the other hand, Trump's victims have continuously spoken out but he is still our president. He has suffered no repercussions for his actions and the right must remember this before criticizing the left.
Side note: George Clooney's response to Bannon is hilarious.
It’s very eye opening to go back and see what the two major parties have supported in the past. Like how Abraham Lincoln was a republican which relatively liberal ideas for his time. I find it really funny how much their values have changed in the intervening years. In addition it’s pretty funny that Hollywood was started by conservatives, and yet now Hollywood wants nothing to do with them. What Steve Bannon was saying about Harvey Weinstein confused me a lot, because he was condemning the sexual assault, yet he supported Trump, and as far as I know he still does. I also liked hearing about Steve Bannon’s history with Hollywood, and reading about that really helped the author’s point that it seems like he’s doing this out of revenge almost. I’m going to keep an eye on this so called “War” and, hell, maybe while he’s trying to open eyes in Hollywood he’ll open his eyes to the White House too.
Wow, Steve Bannon is certainly a confrontational individual! It's honestly impressive how many "wars" he's been able to declare in the past couple of months (decades, it feels like) given that he's not a president, general, or even a semi-qualified politician (anymore). Seriously, he's declared war on "THE MEDIA", wanted a "TRADE WAR WITH CHINA", and even declared a "SEASON OF WAR ON THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT". Now it's "WAR ON HOLLYWOOD". It seems Stevie has taken to a strategy of declaring war with entities that simply want nothing to do with him and wish he would go away. It's rather disconcerting to know that this was once the "Chief Strategist" of the White House. In all seriousness, Bannon's attempted exploitation of the Weinstein scandal, and all the other revelations of late is nothing short of sickening. Bannon is the probably one of the least qualified on the issues going on in Hollywood, and our nation as a whole today, and his opportunistic and inflammatory approach will only make matters worse. Please Steve, do us all a favor and crawl back to the fiery depths of Mordor, we've had enough of you.
Thanks, America.
How is this still something that anyone is taking seriously? If anything, this Salon article has highlighted the thing that everyone has been highlighting throughout the past year: Steve Bannon, and everyone he seems to be working with is a total hypocrite and so insanely unaware and out of touch with everything in the outside world. A "war" on Hollywood? No. If anything, Hollywood, and the rest of the groups in the entertainment industry need to be more empowered than ever in order to begin making publicized art that actually SAYS something. Something new, unique, diverse, and important. Without that empowerment, finance, etc., we will keep putting "art" into society that does nothing for anybody, and if we listen to Steve Bannon or anyone like him, that cycle will continue. Say no to this type of attitude! We are better than this! War on anything, especially entertainment, is stupid!
Oh Steve is at it again. I should get that printed on a shirt. This whole, they are being mean to me so let’s go after them idea is getting annoying. I don’t know of any self respecting person who cares what Steve Bannon says or thinks. He is only trying to fule fires for the sake of readership. Of course this could also be Steve railing against the very society that rejected him when he tried and failed to be a screen writer. If he can’t produce good journalism, how could he ever produce a good screen play. The article does bring up a more scary thought and that is the idea that because Hollywood bucks the conservative establishment, their funding through groups like the NEA and NEH are threatened in budget talks. Another tactic of the GOP, to use threats and scare tactics to get what they want. I don’t think this time around it will work. Anyone in the arts community should be on edge while the current administration is in office. Between congress and the white house, every social program that is designed to make lives better seems to be on the chopping block, regardless of the paltry percentage of the federal budget that it takes up and all because some folks who hold those offices got their feathers ruffled or want to advance the cronyism and buddy relationships they have with their large corporate donors. I hope they understand that if they succeed in any of this, turn about is fair play.
