Highly Capable: The Evolution Of Outboard Power Amplifier Platforms

ProSoundWeb: Many predicted that digital technology would completely replace analog in professional audio, and I’ve heard just about as many also predict that powered loudspeakers would replace passive models driven by outboard power amplifiers.

Well, it seems that analog is here to stay, and so are power amplifiers independent of loudspeakers.

I’m not sure if I fully agree with this article. I think it is important to point out that analog has been around for a very long time and the technology has adapted over the years and although much of the loudspeaker systems remain mostly analog, there are several components that have been replaced with the digital equivalent. I was never under the impression that analog sound was ever going to get completely phased out Although some components of it aren’t exactly the most efficient the author is right in saying that it only requires very minimal cabling and is for the most part very simple to set up. All in all, I think that the entertainment sound industry has adapted to use both analog and digital and I will be interested to see what the way of the future is of the industry, but until then I guess we will kick it old school.
