I think Erin is a great example of how art and theatre can go hand in hand, especially in cases of live performance art or art installations. Enjoying performance but not necessarily performing other people’s work does not mean you cannot pursue theatre; in today’s world, and this program in particular, original writing and New Works are encouraged for young artists. The entertainment world isn’t just looking for creative interpretations of pre-existing work, but just creative work in general, and I think it’s really fantastic that the School of Drama and the School of Art were able to bring Erin in to express that to their artists. Erin also talking about people’s reaction to her work and the struggles she faced really spoke to me. I think it’s a difficult thing to remember that not everyone will resonate with your work, especially out of the box experimental work, and that does not mean your work is bad. Unconventional art requires the ability to improve your work and make is more accessible to the general public.
