Body Cam Video Shows Moment Indiana Officer Shoots at Actor Filming Robbery Scene

KTLA: The incident happened last week in the town of Crawfordsville when police responded to a 911 call about a robbery at Backstep Brewery on North Green Street, according to KTLA sister station WXIN in Indianapolis. The caller told dispatchers that a man in a ski mask entered the bar with a gun.

I am not going to dignify this cop with watching the video because there is literally no excuse for shooting someone who is very clearly surrendering. If the movie actually did not file permits, then they were of course being grossly negligent as well. I'm not even sure how they would get on the site to shoot the movie without permits though. If they were filming inside of an establishment it seems like they should have had to talk to someone about it especially since part of the action, namely the most threatening parts to civilians, was taking place on the street.
This story that the police weren't notified about a film with a gun on the street being filmed is very fishy to me. I just did a play last summer where blanks were fired and every night I called the police district we were in to make sure no police were called. I can not imagine that a movie wouldn't think to do the same.
So I am not buying this story. It seems like another cop cover up so they don't have to fire their man for being too trigger happy. Cop training needs to be reevaluated. A cop should never be so ready to shoot to incapacitate or even kill when they are being told the truth. He should have had the observational skills to automatically look inside the bar when Duff said it was a movie.

There are two mistakes that took place in this situation. One, the people shooting the movie really should have known to let police know what was going on. I think it was stupid of them to not make officers aware that there would be a movie shot that involved what looked like crime. Two, the officer did not hesitate to fire his weapon. It is somewhat unbelievable how quickly he fired the weapon, especially since he was met with no resistance from the actor. I am extremely glad he did not shoot the man, but I think if he had, the movie company would have pressed charges. Having a weapon gives people power, the power to kind of play God, decide if they want to endanger someone’s life or not. This power gets to some officer’s heads. I think this officer was caught up in his own superiority and the desire to exercise his power that he didn’t proceed through this situation like he should have.
