A Project Management Tool for Teams That You Didn’t Know Existed

www.lifehack.org: Some of the first problems busy freelancers & entrepreneurs run into is a time management crunch. As they take on more work, job tracking the tasks for each client becomes more demanding. Having a centralized hub to communicate and share files with team members quickly becomes a necessity when you get busy: it’s deciding the best project management software to use that stops most people in dead their tracks.

(Is that a Gantt chart?)

Viewpath looks like a generally useful tool, especially for those who don't have time to make their own calendars, create ten excel spreadsheets, send them out to everyone in their teams, and still get home in time for dinner. People often overlook the importance of planning and organization (especially overworked students, ahem) but this seems like a great tool to help them get started. Project management tools are incredibly important because they can, when used properly, save the valuable resource of time. This one doesn't even cost money, so that isn't wasted either. It's a visual way of tracking thoughts and progress, and an excellent way to glance at something and know where you are.

That being said, it looks like it may have skipped a design phase or two in the product lifecycle process, like many corporate/enterprise-geared software products. It's neat! But if it looks a little funky to you, I wouldn't blame you.

(It IS a Gantt chart!)

The thing I like about this already is that it is free and wont expired. It seems like a very useful project for a team that is of a lower budget trying to keep organized but the issue as the article states is that it is most effective when you start using it right away before starting a project. If you are trying to play catch up by using Viewpath, it seems you (as the project/production manager) could end up making things even more complicated. The lesson there would be to get organized from the get-go and keep up with as much as possible. As far as I have been able to look though this program does not seem to be available on mac =(

Viewpath seems like a very powerful tool that could really help keep a complex work system working smoothly. I had assumed that this sort of software was out there, but I had never looked in to it before. I do not think that this software is right for me. I may have a lot of work to do every week, but it's not to the complex level that needs any software beyond a basic calendar. This seems like it is geared to people who have to manage projects with many different people. Not just a few group projects for class. If I were to try out this software I suspect that I would waste a lot of time trying to set up all the settings, events, and calendars modes. In the end it's not for me. I do think that If later in life I find that I need to keep track of more complex calendering I will definitely look for a software solution to help me.

This is an interesting piece of software. Its flexibility appears to make it easy to easily adaptable to any industry. This is the type of software that Carnegie Scenic could experiment with. The web based interface means that anybody with the appropriate credentials could access the system without any software onboard.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. First of all this was written like an add so I am guessing it sounds cooler than it actually is, but then again it does sound pretty useful. After reading the article however I couldn't really tell you what exactly viewpath does. The pictures helped somewhat, but I feel like this is one of those articles that could have really used a video. Also I am interested to see how much this really does help. I'm thinking it will only really help those people and companies who are rather large scale, because personally a complicated time management device like this seems like one of those things that takes so much time organizing everything that it takes time away from doing the actual tasks.

There are a number of different project management programs available, although few of them are free, and if they are it is for a very limited period of time. Based on the brevity of this review it is difficult to see how it compares to any of these other programs. The article seems to boast a multi-user access granted by is internet based nature, something that growing increasingly important with every passing day. I still prefer a program that has a desktop presence though, so if Viewpath is entirely online based I would be hesitant to rely on it solely...as we all know there are still some places and times that internet access in unavailable.

I'm always interested in new programs and software to help make our jobs easier or even more manageable. The article mentioned one of my biggest irritants with these project management programs, the fact that it takes large amounts of time to set up and get working properly. I dislike setting up a program only to figure out that it doesn't do what I want it to. I especially don't want to pay for a program I'm not going to end up using. I'm interested in Viewpath mainly because it has a free trial that we could sample and find out if it's what we want. This could be interesting. I'm also not 100% sold with Viewpath only being online. As much as that is nice there are still times where internet isn't around or isn't reliable.

I am torn on whether or not using this program is a good idea. I know that when I am first learning something I'd rather write everything down and manage it myself just for the experience. I would want to know that I could function as a manager if the program were to fail. On the other hand once I was comfortable managing myself why not make it easier and more efficient with a program like this. I think would shop around before using view path just because the article doesn't say much about alternatives.
