This is really encouraging to hear. So much of the production and post-production world for TV and film is still set in old 50 hour work weeks, if not larger. In fact, from what I've heard from people who have worked in the industry a long time, it used to be even worse. They told me about regularly-occurring 12 hour work days, and how difficult it was to keep up a social life in that environment. I myself have been considering going into production, but a bit hesitant at the prospect of what a work/life balance in that environment would be like. If VICE can figure out how to produce their content in a 40 hour work-week, I'm hopeful that other entertainment and media companies will follow in their footsteps as well. I also think it's great that the lower-level employees will end up getting a pay raise from this deal as well. The industry doesn't work without assistants and other entry-level workers, so it's nice to hear that they're also included here.
