The 10 Best Multi-Tools for 2022
WERD: Generally speaking, the very best multi-tool is the one you have in your pocket when a thing needs fixing fast. But you’re not here for generalities. The tool or tools you choose for Every Day Carry deserve careful consideration. And the options are truly astounding. From size, weight & included tools to configurations & niche functions, we assessed and compared, yielding a robust & well-rounded list of the best multi-tools.

I feel like there are certain tools that obviously need to be on a multitool. But then again, every job has a different need and a different tool for it so I guess I was wrong. But for instance, I feel like a pry bar of sorts or a pair of really great pliers is essential for a multitool. This is also just my opinion but a classic Leatherman Wave or Sidekick should've made this list. WITH A POCKET CLIP. The pocket clip comes with the Bond so good for them, but I had to buy the attachment for my Wave and that's so dumb. Like, I already paid $99 for it so just let it come with the freaking pocket clip already. Bonus points if a multitool has one handed open for any of the tools. But the other tools they listed on the article are definitely worth looking into.
I collect Multi- Tools. My grandfather collected swiss army knives so I guess my collection is just the natural evolution of that. I can say with utmost certainty that I had never seen a majority of those that are on this list. Especially the Axe multi- tool. That is sick as hell. I know it seems like it is a bit of a stretch to find usefulness for that kind of multi tool ability but I live in a comparatively rural area (not fully in the boondocks but the town that people in the boondocks come to to do business) and regularly have to cut up wood for fires to keep the house warm in winter so to me that would be a pretty useful and space efficient purchase. Or I could go to one of those ( I think ill advised) axe throwing bars and feel really cool when I whip the thing out. Who knows? Lots of different applications, which is what I love about multi tools.
I know that there will never be the perfect multitool but I can’t help but wonder how many of them you would need to cover every job. There are so many multitools on the market right now that I bet it is possible. With all of that said, I don’t know what the right multitool for me would be. Or if I even need one, at least now I know what the best of this year are. I think the really small ones are so fun. You start to wonder how something so little can do a good enough job. I certainly can say that I have had more conversations about multitools once I got to CMU. Theater people are the perfect audience for a multitool because their versatility directly translates to the strange jobs people are thrown into. My dad gave me two multitools when I came to Pittsburgh and they are something that I will treasure and a bonus is that they have been pretty useful.
Over thanksgiving break, I forgot to check my multi-tool and accidentally left it in my backpack. Following this, I got very stopped at airport security and my multi tool was confiscated. So, it’s very exciting that this article exists! I have pored over it, and here is my process to buying my new multitool. Right off the bat, I eliminated the Garret Wade Capsule Multitool and the Leatherman Signal. The Leatherman Signal is way too expensive, and anything with detachable parts is a terrible idea for me. Next, I eliminated the REAPR Versa Camp Ax. I love camping, but I feel like an axe is not useful to me for daily use. Next, I eliminated anything without a wire stripper. Sadly, some great options were eliminated in this round, including the WESN MT, the REAPR wrecking bar, the FishFace, and the CKRT Septimo. This brings us to the top 3: the Gerber Gear Prybrid Utility, the SOG Kilowatt, and the Leatherman Bond. I have decided to go with the fanciest looking one, the Leatherman Bond. Thanks for everything, article.
