Pittsburgh artist provides vital creative space "for and by Black people"

Visual Art | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: A black box is a system that can be viewed in terms of its inputs and outputs without any knowledge of its internal workings. The term is most commonly used to refer to things such as the workings of an engine, an algorithm, the human brain, or an institution or government. Black box testing refers to “a practice of software testing often used in science, computing, and engineering.”

Having a space for and only black people to create art or engage in community seems fair and reasonable. It’s not the place or space for anyone who isn’t black and people should be okay with that. There was a really beautiful quote in the article that was like, “black spaces equal black power” and that’s not something to be overlooked. For the people who are still disenfranchised to this day while people literally talk like we’ve solved racism and there aren’t whites only places still in the US. Black power isn’t just empowering for black people either like Jessica Gaynelle Miss quoted in the article how black women being free would mean “everyone else would have to be free since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all the systems of oppression.” Who could argue against that?
