'Chasing Andy Warhol' Unveiled by Bated Breath Theatre Company

Variety: Theatergoers can soon get an up-close-and-personal brush with a legendary pop art provocateur. Bated Breath Theatre Company, which recently produced the award-winning “Voyeur: The Windows of Toulouse-Lautrec,” will launch its newest immersive and theatrical walking tour production, “Chasing Andy Warhol.”

I'm interested to see how Andy Warhol's story will be adapted into a theatrical tour. There's been a lot of interest lately in artists from the 80's. What I've seen has mostly been in regards to clothes, including lots of Keith Haring-inspired designs, but also includes the recent film adaptation of "Tick, Tick...Boom!" which tells the story of Jonathan Larson.

I've been wondering myself when an Andy Warhol biopic would come around, so I was surprised to see that Bated Breath sort of "got to it first." I think that this could be the start of a big reinterest in Warhol's work, and if so, we might see ramifications of that both in terms of a renewed interest in CMU/CFA, as well as Pittsburgh/the Warhol Museum. On the other hand, given that the theater is keeping audience sizes small, the production may end up being a niche experience that caters to existing Warhol fans rather than trying to garner new ones.

Personally, I find Warhol’s story… the good and the bad rather fascinating. I have not ever seen a production formatted as a tour, but I can imagine it would be enjoyable especially with a tale as immersive as Warhol’s that spans the city. I am definitely going to see if I can research more on Bated Breath, and try to attend a production if not, “Chasing Andy Warhol, when I visit New York in the Summer. I would be interested din how locations are prepped for audiences and what type of strike they have on a daily basis. I will admit, if I had heard about an Andy Warhol biopic happening in a traditional theatre format, I’d be slightly apprehensive. However, I’d be really curious to see how the script worked out and what the music would sound like. At the same time, I think it would eb so much fun to design a production based off his iconography and work. I think perhaps this tour production with Bated Breath could open a window for a potentially larger production on the life of Andy Warhol.
