Lin-Manuel Miranda is such an incredible artist, and reading this article gave me vivid flashbacks back to when he spoke at my friend’s graduation. I remember hearing back then in 2019 that he was going to be a special guest speaker, but nobody was expecting much. I for one thought he would just give a cheesy speech about graduating, while reading off of some note cards. Yet, to my surprise he ran on began singing and freestyling at the graduation podium. The piece he was singing he specially wrote for the graduating grade and it was quite incredible. You truly need to have an innate skill to be able to effortlessly freestyle in front of hundreds of people, and I think the ideas behind “Freestyle Love Supreme” are unique and incredible, but are no easy feat to pull off. Truly, only a lyrical genius such as Lin-Manuel Miranda could create a show including live freestyle within its entirety, and I am excited to see where the show goes. Rap and freestyle are such beautiful mediums of expression and I am so excited that it is being used more and more within theater productions today. Interactive shows are always incredibly fun from magic shows, to comedy shows it always good to get the audience involved and freestyle will certainly add to the experience.
