I saw Jesus Christ Superstar in Chicago and it was absolutely fantastic. It wasn’t the same cast however. When I saw it the person playing Herod did have the comic relief inspired “obviously by Hamilton.” I think that actually as a side note was interesting. Ever since Hamilton there has been a significant number of male villains cast as to use the word in the article for lack of a better term although I dislike it “prissy,” comedic normally monarchs/rulers cast in that way. I think its an interesting take on a very serious topic and one that needs to be more thoroughly questioned. When thought about more seriously it, for example in Jesus Christ Superstar, laughs off a man behind very serious genocide and I wonder why the subject is being ‘lightened.’ I also found it interesting that they noted in the review the range of Caiapha, as when I saw the show he definitely lacked as much variation.
