Lots of Safety Precautions Going Into Holiday Shows This Year

Slog - The Stranger: Christmas is back! And so is the war on it. “We’re in the thick of it,” says Scott Shoemaker, taking a break from rehearsing for his traditional local holiday show, Scott Shoemaker’s War on Christmas! “It’s the same format as always, a ‘70s variety show that goes awry,” he says. “This year we’re doing a twisted version of A Christmas Carol.”

Something small that this article mentioned that I think should be a bigger conversation in the theatre and entertainment industry right now is the comment they made stating “we took a whole year off from everything and everyone is traumatized.” This is so so true, people have been essentially without a job for over a year and losing their job that sudden and for so long was traumatizing that getting back into the swing of things with producing live shows might be hard for some people, or might take some people a little more time than it would have in the past. I am kind of thinking it wouldn’t be bad for the first shows that companies do coming back to have a little more rehearsal than they would traditionally give to account for that time that people might need to re-acclimate themselves with the theatre world. Like the article said, it is not easy to be funny right now, so companies might need a little more time and support to get to that funny point.
