I haven’t been this excited for a new movie in a while. The actor and designer line up is phenomenal. I could not imagine the pressure of being a costume designer for a film about Gucci but based off of the commercials I’ve seen and the pictures in this article, it seems that they rose to the occasion. From what I understand about the storyline, the costumes needed to be extremely specific in regards to time period, location, and social status. I’d say from these images that these designers accurately portrayed all of those requirements. The attention to detail and texture is amazing. Not only does every outfit have it’s own texture, (with a wide variety of fabric choices) but the lines and shapes are also drastically varied, yet time appropriate. I also love how vibrant a lot of the colors are. I wish that I could go to this exhibit but I will hopefully be able to see all of this content in the film.

I watched House of Gucci last night and I was simply blown away by the costumes in that movie. The cast, setting and story of the film were phenomenal and the costumes only added more intricacy and depth to the story. Like Madison said, I cannot imagine the pressure that costume designer and the department must have been in to do justice to the movie, all the while attempting to make a niche in the film industry with the costume design. I truly truly loved Lady Gaga's wedding dress in the movie. The dress looked refreshingly different than the ones that we are used to seeing, and I personally believe that it made the wedding scene all the more captivating and beautiful to look at. Not to add but the red ski suit was another eye stealer for me. Seeing that bright red against the white of the snow, I think it added to the strength of Lady Gaga's character in that one moment.

I have not seen House of Gucci, I have not even heard about House of Gucci and registered it as a new film until right about now, I do not expect to watch House of Gucci unless a friend ropes me into it, but godDAMN do I love a good display of costumes. And I'm no connoisseur; I don't know who most of these designers are, I don't know how to properly appreciate the construction of clothing, I haven't watched most movies these actors are in, but I can appreciate the work. It looks cool and looks RICH, and maybe if I dig a little deeper, I can learn how to identify the specific crafts and skills needed to pull off such an endeavor. I will say though, "Ridley Scott wanted to show more leg and requested Yates trim 18 inches off this dress for Lady Gaga" is such a funnily obnoxious sentence. What's up with that, Scott?

I love costume exhibits! In my limited experience, the exhibits I have seen are normally reserved for films from the past that are considered classics or have iconic costume piece in them. Having an exhibit for such a recent movie gives fans and fashion lovers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the garments before or after they see the movie, making it quite an immersive experience. It always takes my breath away to hear how long certain garments and costumes take to make. I can’t imagine the patience and skill it would take to work for eight to ten weeks on one dress. It must be so rewarding as the team that made that dress to see it worn up on the big screen! I know this film is getting a lot of Oscar and other award buzz for the acting and directing, and there is no doubt in my mind that they will be seeing costume nominations as well.
