There have been so many films, tv shows, and even a musical about Princess Diana recently and in every behind-the-scenes look at them all, they mention how crucial costumes were for Diana to truly come to life. Diana’s fashion is one part of what made her an icon in the time that she was alive. She was one of the first royals who experimented with fashion and wasn’t afraid to take risks with designers or labels. Diana expressed herself through fashion, so it is really fitting that costume designers working on her story pay such close detail to what she wore and when she wore it. On “The Crown” I really appreciated how the designer paid homage to exact clothing items Diana had worn at public events or famous photos but took just enough creative liberty to still have ownership over the design. I haven’t seen “Spencer” yet, but based on pictures it seems like they may have taken this same route.
