wiegand.waterslides details new Wie-glow technology

blooloop: The company has presented a new innovation for individual water slide design, which will also be utilised on spectacular dry slides by sister company Josef Wiegand. Many waterslides can already feature internal designs, however, the Wie-glow concept means that these no longer need to just be repetitive patterns or colours.

This is a really interesting concept. I am not really sure how important this product/idea actually is or will be, but I can see how this could be really cool in a water slide. Normally in a water slide it’s just a dark tube of a solid color. The ability to use Wie-glow to be able to tell a story from the beginning of the ride to the end could be a really powerful story-telling tool. I could see companies like Disney and Universal wanting to use a product like this to be able to aid the themes of their rides and be able to give their riders a very specific and curated experience of the course of their time on the ride. I feel like water rides are where themes are lacking the most because there really is not a strong ability to be able to customize the inside of the tube without compromising how smooth the ride is, etc.

I have to completely agree with James in saying that this is a really interesting idea, but I am not quite sure how relevant it will become. Water parks are, in my personal opinion, hell on earth that are full of sweaty people sharing the same toxic bath water. HOWEVER, even I can admit that water slides are a great deal of fun. Traditionally big waterslides are either a full tube or half tube that are just solid colors that sometimes alternate. The idea of incorporating more intricate artwork in the waterslide is something that would be beautiful to see, but I fear it would be lost on most people. Additionally, I can not even imagine how much longer it would take to create all of these slides for a full blown water park and with increased time, increased money. Secondly, I am interested to see how this artwork would hold up over time, considering most of the waterslides I see are incredibly faded under the abuse of the sun, I would hope that the artwork would not see the same fate.
