PTR: Tool storage is a huge segment for several manufacturers. While many folks are going to stick the the brand they like, there’s nothing that says you can’t put Craftsman tools in a DeWalt toolbox. That’s why getting it right is such a big deal and why the DeWalt ToughSystem 2.0 makes some significant improvements.

Dewalt power drill was the first power tool that I have ever used at my high school theater. There were other types of power drill as well, but Dewalt one was what best fitted my hand. Thus I had to click on the link when I saw that yellow mark. I was a little disappointed to figure out that the article was not necessarily about the power drill or any other power tools, but a box (I thought the author would at least mention them). However, as I was reading through the article, I actually found it very interesting as I realized that the company paid attention to finessing not only the tools that they produce, but also the box that contains the tool. Considering that people using such tools would travel frequently, this kind of investment does make sense. Overall, this article was very smoothly read and I also enjoyed author’s witty comments throughout the review as well.
I keep finding myself writing comments about this type of tool box systems, I mean, they are becoming the new normal for tool boxes. At this point, it seems like almost every major tool company has some sort of modular tool box system. The first company I ever saw that really became "famous" for one was Milwaukee. In no way am I claiming they were the first, because I know they weren't, however, they took it to the next level by adding more components and options to choose from. At this point, off the top of my head I know that Craftsman, Milwaukee, Rigid, Dewalt, Bosch and Festool all have similar modular systems, and I am sure there are more. The Dewalt ToughSystem doesn't seem like a bad setup, however, I feel like they are just playing catchup with Milwaukee. They are just not interdicting the auto locking feature that Milwaukee has already had, and do not have nearly as many modules as them. Overall, seems like a good product that is just a little behind.
As time goes on, I am starting to believe that a preference for Milwaukee over DeWalt or vice versa is simply a preference in color at this point. Both companies have come out with similar tools and storage solutions for a while now with the Tough System 2.0 being DeWalt’s version of Milwaukee’s Packout system. Having used the Packout system and not being impressed by the system, I doubt I would have much good to say about DeWalt’s version either. While I do appreciate that DeWalt is not selling me big plastic Tupperware for 300 dollars like Milwaukee, instead they have decided to price it right in the middle at 200 dollars. Still seems like a lot of money for some plastic storage bins. Overall none of this really impacts me because I do not own enough tools to make investing in a storage system make sense, however, I would like to try it out sometime to see if I do like it more than the Packout system for when the day comes that I need to transport a bunch of hand tools.
