What’s new in the tool box?
Maker Project Lab: I’m Donald Bell for Cool Tools and in this video I’m going to give you a preview and a quick overview of some of the tools I’ve ordered in recently. Most of these haven’t been tested yet, but I thought you might like an early look. And for what it’s worth, most of the tools here are under $10.

I always enjoy hearing and seeing what other people have in their toolbox. Experience is the best teacher especially when it comes to woodworking or fabricating, so as someone young(ish) it is nice to learn from people who have worked in the industry for quite some time. The items in this list are certainly interesting, and I could see them being useful for some people. Nevertheless, I found that some of them are the "applecutters" of the toolbox: They are great at doing one very specific and minor task, but outside of that functionally useless. Take, for example, the Fingertip Craft Knife, which could be useful for cutting out odd shapes out of thin materials, however a regular Exacto-Knife can do that and more. The panel carrier looks nice, but in our shop we don't work alone and have carts and dollies for sheet goods. I have a hard time thinking of a scenery application for the copper tape, but I can see its use in electronic shielding. I will say, however, that the brush/roller cleaner and tarp clips could see some action in our shop, particularly if we wanted to temporarily hang a drop, however the strength of these clips may come into question. Overall, it was neat to see what Donald bought and how he plans to use it, but don't quite see the need to buy these things at the moment.
