Choreographer Kyle Abraham: Making connections through dance
The San Diego Union-Tribune: Choreographer and artistic director Kyle Abraham wants the dancers of his company A.I.M (Abraham in Motion) to develop an important skill — and it’s more about the mind than the body. The New York-based troupe is already visually captivating, technically skilled in what Abraham defines as a gumbo of movement styles, seamlessly linking classical ballet and contemporary dance techniques with hip-hop swagger.

Thanks for sharing!
I used to dance a lot when I was younger and I always forget how much fun it is. Dance is such a unique form of art because you’re telling stories with movement instead of words and music. The idea of being emotionally present in the dance, as mentioned in the article, is key to successful storytelling. To be emotionally present is to feel and understand every move you make while you're on stage and be aware that you’re sharing that emotion with the rest of the audience. The choreographer said the goal of the piece was to be connected to each other. I think when two people who are dancing have great chemistry and are so connected makes the dance ten times for effective and meaningful. Its because they dancers are sharing their emotions with each other and then the dance comes from that emotion that is being expressed and aids it.
Thank you for shedding light on such an important topic. This article is a must-read.
