The recent and currently ongoing Coronavirus outbreak is absolutely devastating. The fact that it has gotten to a point where the World Health Organization has declared an official emergency is terrifying. The fact that there are multiple confirmed cases within the United States, as close as Chicago. Terrifying. Virus outbreaks such as this are about as close as I imagine we will ever come to such plagues as the Black Death and smallpox nowadays. Even though there is a low likelihood that the corona virus will make its way out of the isolated, quarantined cases in the US, the prospect of such a virus is still scary. Coronavirus can kill. Coronavirus has killed. If the World Health Organization declaring an emergency is not enough, closing an entire Disneyland resort for an indefinite period of time, and cancelling a concert with over 100,000 sold tickets only emphasizes the terror that is Coronavirus. Disneyland is very good at running, come rain or shine, so the closing of a whole park for a day, much less an unknown duration, is a terrifying, all too real prospect. I am hoping this coronavirus epidemic will get sorted soon.
