At first, I thought this was a real article, which would have been absolutely hilarious. Fortunately alarm bells went off in my head, and by clicking through to other articles, I realized that the site was in fact satire. Either way, this is a funny idea to get all the people at a convention to do the thing they’re learning about. Even though this is a joke, experiential learning really is the best way to go about learning something. Carnegie Mellon is like that is some ways. We’re paying to get a degree in our specialty, but at the end of the day, we’re also working long hours to get our degree. So in sort of a funny way, this article kind of parallels how the school of drama works, minus the safety glasses with no lenses and jokes about a plane to catch. It could also be seen as a commentary about unpaid internships and how people aren’t being paid or are payING to do labor.

Okay, this was HILARIOUS. I loved the stereotypes. The NYU Tisch girl obsessed with Sutton Foster made me think "Ooh, I know like five of those girls." The comments about the safety glasses without the lenses and the girl who lost the tip of her finger in the process were so casually mentioned, and it made me laugh so hard. I've definitely worked in some sketchy places like that. One place had an uneven floor so they told us we can't use the outriggers for their lift. Don't think OSHA would appreciate that one

Anyway, I've always been a fan of satirical news sites like The Onion, but I had no idea there were Broadway themed ones, too! It's so niche that it shocks me it even exists. It reminds me a lot of Q2Q Comics in that sense. I'm definitely going to look more into this site and its articles. Also, if I explain our Stagecraft class to one more non-DP who says "Sounds like they're just using you as free labor" I may cry. To be fair, they're wrong. It's not free labor. I'm paying THEM.
