“After many years of discussion about sexism and gender inequality in the world of theatre, the gender gap seems not to have changed yet. This statistically proves that the industry prefers male in theatre roles and females are fundamentally not suited for writing, directing or producing plays.” This is what I would say if I were one of the head of organizations to be questioned. I believe longer it takes for the industry to diverse, more time will be given to such people to make an excuse, that is complete nonsense. It took a long time to get to this point, where people are able to make statements about how the theatre industry should be developed in the future. However, in order to beat the deliberate obfuscation, the first thing we must do is to swiftly increase the population of female, or any other people who are now considered as minorities, involved in the theatre.
