TribLIVE.com: Greensburg’s Stage Right! theater company set a new Guinness World Record for fastest theatrical production.
The company, which also operates a school for the performing arts, received an email Friday confirming that it successfully set a new world record by staging a production of “Children of Eden” — from auditions to performance — in 14 hours and 30 minutes.

This world record set by Stage Right! Theatre company is absolutely insane. A process which normally takes weeks or months has somehow been condensed into only fourteen hours. Nonetheless, a three-hour performance. The absolute focus and sheer skill required to pull off this event is incomprehensible. I recall back in high school when we once had six weeks to put together a mainstage musical, and we barely scraped by. Granted, we built full stage sets, which doesn’t seem to have been done for Stage Right! ’s production. That is, unless, they were allowed to build the set in advance. This also begs the question what tech was involved in the show, if any. Did they do a full cue list for lights or use a wash and blackouts the entire time? Were there any stagehands backstage, or was it only actors for the entire show? More information about the logistics of how the show was put on would’ve been nice in this article, but nonetheless, it has most definitely shocked me. Putting together an entire production in just fourteen and a half hours is an impossible feat that Stage Right! has, somehow, managed to pull off.
I never thought this was possible. I have the same reaction as Dean above: this record is insane. The thought of putting a production together in 14 hours stressed me out… but I really admire the focus and dedication that must have been put into making this production possible. Thinking back to the productions at high school, we at least took 7 week to get a play performance together. Even just Tiger at the Gates, planning started back in February. Somehow, the Stage Right! Theatre company managed to do all of it in 14 hours. Now I’m curious about the performance itself. How much scenery do they have? How extensive are the costumes? How much tech do they have like sound and lighting? Supposing that the cast just had to memorize their lines and cues within those hours, how many rehearsals did they have? I wish they included more about the performance itself, and maybe even interviews with the cast and crew.
Coming from theatrical companies that can take almost 2 weeks to release cast lists, this completely amazes me. I wish that this article talked a bit more about the design that went into the show because I am curious to know how much time was spent previous to the announcement so that the production of things like sets, costumes, and lights could happen in time for the performance. If those elements were created outside of this timeline I would be slightly less impressed, but nonetheless teaching an entire show so quickly is incredible. Another thing I can't help but think about is what this environment must have been like for the performers. What was the overall skill and experience level of the performers, and what was the final production like? Though producing a show this quickly is impressive I wish the article would talk a little bit more about the actual show and not just the fact that it was put together so fast.
This is insane!! Similar to Mitchell, the theatres I have worked with take about two weeks to release a cast list and a month or two of rehearsal. I am in disbelief that Stage Right! auditioned, rehearsed, and performed such an elaborate production in only 14.5 hours. Not only was I shocked when I read the headline, but to find out that the cast included 96 actors. Rehearsals for a theatrical production takes extreme focus and discipline during a rehearsal period of any amount of time; the shorter the rehearsal time the more focus is required. This being said, for 96 cast members to put on a production in 14.5 hours is insane. The amount of focus and discipline in that cast must have been unmeasurable. I'm impressed with the audience as well. I'm so glad that the community is so supportive of the arts. For the production to be announced the morning of the performance and turning out with an audience of 500 shows that the entire community is extremely supportive and attentive to what the Stage Right! company is trying to achieve.
