Over the years, I have become more and more enamored with Cirque du Soleil and commercial theatre in general. I think also I’ve fallen more in love with these types of companies as I realize how commercial theatre aligns more with my life goals compared to nonprofit theatre. This article makes me fall even more in love with Cirque because the article talks about how much they are tailoring these shows to the ships. Cirque is performing in its smallest venue yet and also putting audience members at the center of the show. These two things are wild to incorporate into shows and illustrates how great Cirque is at thinking outside of outside of the box idea. I am amazed that Cirque du Soleil is launching two shows at the same time on ships. I find this crazy for the main reason that cruise ships are moving so a complicated show takes place on a moving object. This is so cool and I wonder how the show will change depending on the ocean. I know from friends that do cruise ships that when the sea is rough that the show changes to be safer.

As much as I consider myself to be a huge Cirque du Soleil fan, I had not realized that they did shows at sea. If I'm being honest, that makes me a little nervous. But then again, it's Cirque du Soleil- they have this handled. I can't imagine the amount of work that has gone into creating the spaces to hold these shows and successful and safely be able to do it all, as well and the equipment and technology. I'm assuming these are more toned done versions of their shows, but even then, toned down for them is still a lot. I would love to hear more about what the process was like and what has had to change for them, as a company, when translating their shows into being done at sea. And the rigging...woah, I really cannot imagine what that is like for these shows. I have seen the backstage of Cirque shows and I have seen the backstage of cruise ship shows and I really do not see how these two have married. I have lots of questions... Truly, nothing is impossible with Cirque du Soleil- they will continue to blow my mind and this is why I am such a fan.
