This article uses my new favorite management phrase “mental gymnastics”. What an amazing metaphor for problem-solving and something that this article talks about beautifully. This article brings up a great point indirectly. It talks about Davide Pisanu’s past and how he spent three years at Mckinsey and Company, an amazing and fascinating consulting firm. It shows that people should diversify to be on top of their game as a “constant decision-maker” aka a manager at an arts organization. It was really interesting reading about how Pisanu never makes long term decisions as things are changing so quickly. I feel like this is something that I haven’t thought about a lot as many times when asked hypothetical or real questions about problems plaguing something I am working on, it is all about the long term outcomes granted I haven’t worked on many things lasting more than five years but even at a company I worked at as an Arts Administrator, we were always thinking past five years. Pisanu’s overall discussion and embodiment of flexibility really are amazing and great to see as a new young manager.
