The Recipe Behind the Scrumptious Set for 'The Cake'
Theatre Development Fund – TDF: Scenic designer John Lee Beatty says he learns something new from every show he works on at Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC). For his 71st production with the venerable company, The Cake, he got schooled on the nuts and bolts of baking. "That is the fun thing about being a designer," says the 70-year-old master. "Who knew I'd ever learn so much about cakes?"

This is so cute! I love baking so this was a super fun article to read. It is so interesting to see how other skills I may have picked up apply to theater in various ways. I never really thought baking would apply but I'm so glad it does. I thought that it was really cute to hear the scenic designer talk about his research for this set and to see where the set came too. I enjoy reading things about designer's process because it is inspiring to hear from industry professionals about what it is like to work in the real world. I also think it would be interesting if there was something like this with CMU designers. I know that the freshman get intents and insights but like maybe if there was something kind of like that that got posted on this blog for others to read about what the designers wanted out of a show. I think it is interesting and people could read it before going to see a show to get more context.
