Wow! That’s a lot of Money. I love that the Cirque du Soleil, Colgate and MGM Resorts drew inspiration from the principles of human connection, friendship, beauty, nature, love and loss. Also the fact that they were using water, or at least I’m making that assumption because the article calls this an aquatic and splashy event, is awesome. I also adore that the acrobatic spectacle was set to the music of Academy Award-winning, world-renowned score composer Hans Zimmer is super cool as well. It’s ironic that this event was able to raise so much money: $1,117,155 to be exact… when the event itself must’ve been extremely expensive to put on. I am appalled that the live auction event had pieces that raised a LOT of money. It’s a little insane. Also reading about the different items up for auction… I do not really know what half these items are.
I can’t decide if this production is fitting or slightly odd for a fundraiser to provide clean water given that it is water themed due to using a large amount of water. That aside, this is obviously a very successful fundraiser, though I am curious if the stated amount raised is before or after costs. If it is before costs, I’m curious if Cirque just donated the operating costs themselves. I hope they did. I’m also curious to see if donations to One Drop increased after this event was broadcast, since presumably seeing it opened viewers eyes to the cause and potentially inspired them to donate as well. All and all, it is nice to see theater being used to make a positive impact on the world, and this is a very clear example of doing that. Plus I’m sure it was a very well done show. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see the recording.
