Trans actors are asking why, of all roles, she would choose what, for a trans man, would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

This article has shown that although liberal Hollywood is generally known to be accepting, trans actors still are not in their interest. What I find insane about this is that no matter your gender in Hollywood your one job is to act, and I believe the casting should be solely based on talent. Yeah, if you are famous that might help, but if you are trans you should not be denied an audition, whenever the trans person could be the most talented person who auditioned. Also, I think it is disgusting how people in Hollywood are trying to insult the trans actors who are speaking out about the injustice in the system. Maybe if the people higher up in Hollywood would try to think that if they were not allowed to audition for roles because of their gender, what would they do. They would not come up with such a rash response to the outbursts from the trans actors.
As a female involved in the Time’s Up movement, ScarJo should know better, but we are once again reminded of her screaming privilege and are disappointed by her dismissal of marginalized groups. Can anyone truly play anyone, Rapaport? Why should a white actor get to tell black history? It is not ethical for a person in privilege to be able to tell the story of whom they've historically oppressed. And why do you, Rapaport, as a cishet, get to tell the LGBT+ community what is offensive to them, or not? The excuse is always “we couldn't find the talent”. You just want the name that will make you the money.
For somebody of any marginalized community, it is so valuable to see yourself represented by actors in film. It is unfortunate Hollywood primarily casts cishet white actors. Whitewashing and other related offenses, such as ScarJo playing a trans man, is shameful.
