I think the fact that safety was made a priority in the negotiation of this new contract is crucial. After previously reading an article about a stuntman being seriously injured due to a lack of safety procedures, this is definitely an issue this industry needs to work on and continue to develop as the years progress. This is by no means a perfect contract. Health care and benefits do not appeal to all members of the Union, and those in smaller independent post production facilities will lose their jobs because of increased overhead. The contract does not provide any benefits for those working on TV shows either. The turnaround time is 9 hours, and although this is a change, has little to no significance when the individual only receives this provision after working two 14 hour days with a special exception for pilots or shows in their first season.
